The Twelve Tune Songbooks
by Margaret Wright
Folk Notes Music Books Online

Margaret's 1st Dulcimer '94Margaret Wright has been playing mountain dulcimer since 1994, is a teacher of music and mountain dulcimer, and is the mother of Lloyd Wright, first place winner in the Mountain Dulcimer National Championships, Winfield Kansas, 2000.  She has also had several of her mounatin dulcimer students place very well in regional championships, as well as at the national championships.

In 1997, Gary Hamilton suggested that Margaret tab out 12 simple songs for the newly formed Davy Crockett Dulcimer Society.  The resulting 'Twelve Tune Song Book' starts with 'Bile Them Cabbage' and includes eleven more easy to learn tunes.  It was suggested that the new players learn the tunes in that book before going to their first jam session.

Then Margaret started writing more tabs.  The tablature for the mountain dulcimer became very popular and now she is up to her eleventh 'Twelve Tune Song Book'.  There is now a CD that comes with each 'Twelve Tune Song Book'. The CD's have recordings of every song in the book they accompany.

The tablature for each song is on a separate sheet so they can be put into sleeves and arranged in a binder alphabetically, by genre, or grouped as they came, so the accompanying CDs can be referenced quickly.

The tuning for the songs in the first book is 'DAD', the rest of the series is in 'DAD' and 'DGD' tunings. DGD tuning can be tuned into quickly and easily from 'DAD' with little fear of breaking strings, as when retuning back and forth between 'DAD' and 'DAA'.  A capo is repuired for some songs.
